Rogers Corporation Introduces ARLON® Flame-Retardant Self-Fusing Silicone Tape for Mission-Critical Insulation with a Single Wrap

Release Date: 09/28/2018

Chandler, Arizona, September 28, 2018 – Rogers Corporation (NYSE:ROG) is pleased to introduce ARLON® flame-retardant self-fusing silicone tape for mission-critical insulation applications. This new formulation of tape bonds irreversibly to itself to create a flexible, insulative barrier that is weather-resistant over a wide temperature range and features a flame-retardant UL-VO rated compound.

Made of specially formulated silicone rubber, ARLON flame-retardant self-fusing tape is ideal for use in extreme environments, providing superior electrical insulation and stability over temperatures from -54°C up to +204°C (-65°F up to +400°F). The tape contains no adhesive, chemically bonding to itself at room temperature within 24 hours, enabling residue-free installation and removal for a broad array of mechanical and electrical applications. Unlike traditional adhesive based tapes, it has excellent dielectric strength of 300 VPM minimum at 180°C (356°F), while resisting moisture, oxygen, ozone, and corona to ensure continuous high insulation values. It conforms smoothly when wrapped around complex forms, dampening vibration and absorbing mechanical shock.

Applications for the new flame-retardant self-fusing tape includes mechanical overwraps like wire harness and bundling wrap, emergency pipe and hose repair, air duct sealing, coolant line repairs, traction and protection for rollers. Electrical applications include insulation for splicing and terminating wire and cable, coil insulation in motors, insulating and sealing of electrical connections, weatherproofing and more. Due to the robust properties of ARLON flame-retardant self-fusing tape, it provides excellent insulant in challenging applications like space and aviation, heated transfer lines, radioactive, and underwater environments.

ARLON flame-retardant self-fusing silicone tape is offered in rectangular profile. Available in four thicknesses ranging from .25mm to 1.02mm (10 to 40 mils), this new tape is offered in brown and black. ARLON flame-retardant tape meets flame and smoke requirements for FAR 25.853, UL Recognized A-A-59163A specification and is Reach and RoHS compliant. The tape can also be certified to many industry-specific specifications upon request.

Tim Wilson, Rogers’ Market Segment Manager for Arlon products states, “We’re proud to introduce ARLON flame-retardant self-fusing silicone tapes to our portfolio of high performance silicone solutions. By combining self-fusing capability with the robustness of ARLON silicone rubber, the new tapes provide insulation reliability with a single wrap, reducing labor time and cost.”
